So, the apothecary jars that cover the mantle above my stove in the kitchen were looking somewhat opaque, rather than crystal clear as they should. I decided it was high time to take them down.

Ideally, I like to take them down once a month or so and empty their contents, give them a good wash inside and out to make them shiny and new once again. It's been since January....
Hey, I said ideally....
We don't eat the candy that are in these jars, as their up quite high and I need to drag the barstool over to even reach them. (Trust me, there are plenty of other jars scattered with things we do eat.) That, and the fact that the stuff that fills them is rather old....
Heather had shown Strawberry Malts balls in this pretty post over a year and a half ago.(not sounding so tempting now, huh?) I swooned over them and went out in search of them. There are yogurt covered peanuts... that, I am sure are rancid by now. And, I'm thinking one bite of the lady fingers, and you'd be missing a tooth! That's the not so sweet truth behind these babies...
This cute little guy, saw the sweet stuff within his reach and tried his darnedest to make a mad dash for some.... Not so fast, my love.
It got me to thinking of all the goodies that we put into these jars. There's saltwater taffy, in pretty shades of pink.... perfect for the summer! Can I just tell you how much I love these? The colors are divine and I'm loving the swirly ones... they don't taste so bad either! From Trader Joe's... where else?
Seashells from the seashore and seashells from the candy shop.
Christmas ornaments are even more spectacular inside a pretty jar... I found these a few weeks ago at the flea. I can never pass the pretty ones by.
Then there's old spools of thread in candy hues, old buttons and millinery flowers, stacks of soaps look pretty too! So, tell me, am I missing anything? What do you put in your jars in your home? I'd love to hear more ideas!
i love how your jars look all filled with candies, etc...i have one canning jar filled with moss and a tiny small baby's slipper...that's it...i am jar deficient...LOL...

OOOO! I don't think I'd be able to look at all those yummy treats everyday. I'm just a sucker for sweets!
I have one pretty jar that's filled with different colored glass stones, mainly in shades of blue. Other than that, I have old mason jars, mostly filled with functional items - vintage buttons, paintbrushes, fabric scraps, etc. so I don't use them as display.

I've been wanting to buy myself some apothecary jars for a long time now! Yours look so pretty with the pastel goodies filling them up! I do have a couple of jars that I fill with lace, spools of thread and other vintage sewing things.

How funny. I just did the same thing. Decided that it was time to clean my apothecary jars. They had pink malt balls, white taffy and other candies, but for the first time I decided not to refill them. Don't know how long it will last, but I put my collection of jars on top of a cream piece of furniture.
Love all of your ideas!
