We were able to squeeze in a little trip to Philadelphia with the kids. This is the dome that tops Memorial Hall. The building was built for America's Centennial Celebration in 1876 that was held in Philadelphia. It's beauty just takes my breath away! The craftsmenship back then... {sigh!} Modern day buildings could never be as beautiful with their sharp lines and sleek facades.
This little row home is most likely my favorite in Philadelphia. It's no more than 14 feet wide, but the detail is just exquisite! Random facts for you: Philadelphia is known for it's row homes. Before America became independent of Britian, they were taxed by the number of walls that touched the air. They were also taxed on the amound of wrought iron that adorned their homes and wether or not their home had marble steps at the enterance. Whenever we visit the city, I sit across the street from here at a little sidewalk cafe and imagine what it would be like to live here!
More gorgeous-ness in old buildings of Philadelphia! Once again, you'd never see this in modern buildings.... even the loveliest ones couldn't hold a flame to detail like this!!
Loving the subject matter on this facade!
Talk about beauty and functionality! A fire escape just next to the above picture of the black facade.
Been doing a bit of organizing and stumbled on this photo of our old Fiat. Friends used it as their getaway car for their wedding!
My husband was their chauffeur!
My peonies came and went. As always their beauty is fleeting
The roses are still plentiful here...
Taking in inspiration and beauty from the everyday. Trying to take a bit more time for me.... Doesn't always happen. Balance is such a funny word.
My journal.
Off to get my chores done, so I can spend the afternoon with my treasures.
I adore old buildings and their decorative features as well! thank you for sharing these--I've never been to Philly. And I agree, there aren't masters like that around anymore....Functional can be beautiful!!
